Erste Zertifikatsverleihung des fakultätsweiten Wahlfachmoduls Digitale Wissenschaft

Neben dem Studium eine zusätzliche Ausbildung im Bereich Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik (IKT) absolvieren: Diese Möglichkeit haben Studierende der Uni Graz seit etwas mehr als einem Jahr mit dem überfakultären Wahlfachmodul "Digitale Wissenschaft".

Nun haben die ersten vier Studierenden das Modul abgeschlossen: Am 9. Oktober 2013 überreichten Univ.-Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Staudegger, Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christian Wessely, Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Christian Schlögl und Dr. Hubert Stigler die Zeugnisse. Sandra Rainer, Birgit Kaiser und Alexandra Piswanger, alle Studentinnen der Rechtswissenschaften, nahmen ihre Zertifikate persönlich entgegen; Tobis Köhler, Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Fakultät, war verhindert.

In dem Modul sind insgesamt 24 ECTS-Punkte zu absolvieren, wobei zwölf in einem Pflicht- und weitere zwölf in einem umfassenden Wahlbereich verortet sind. Zum Pflichtbereich zählen Lehrveranstaltungen aus den Kategorien Informationswissenschaft, Ethik und IT-Recht. Im Wahlbereich kommen zu den drei genannten noch Angewandte Informatik, Informationsmodellierung und Medienkompetenz hinzu.

Da die einzelnen anrechenbaren Lehrveranstaltungen durchwegs im Rahmen der regulären Studien angeboten werden, ist – entsprechendes Interesse an der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie vorausgesetzt – damit im Zuge des jeweiligen Studiums eine Zusatzqualifikation erlangbar, die durch ein Zertifikat nachgewiesen wird. Das Angebot richtet sich an Studierende aller Studienrichtungen und vereint Lehrveranstaltungen aus allen Fakultäten.

Autonomous robots and AI algorithms provide important data and high-resolution real-time images from inside a beehive. "As part of an international team, we have developed a game-changer technology for a new type of digitalised behavioural research," reports biologist Thomas Schmickl from the Artifical Life Lab at the University of Graz. Research for healthy aging: FWF funds Cluster of Excellence "MetAGE" with 18 million euros

Six researchers from the Field of Excellence "BioHealth" at the University of Graz, together with colleagues from the Medical Universities of Graz and Vienna, have acquired an FWF-funded "Cluster of Excellence". Now a newly formed center of excellence will be created under the leadership of the University of Graz. The aim is to gain a better understanding of healthy aging. The findings will flow directly into clinical research.
