Recognition of exams and internships

You have not completed a course (ECTS) as part of your degree programme and would like to have it recognised? Would you like to have a work placement approved and recognised? Then you will find all the information you need here!

Anerkennung

Here you will find instructions on how to create an application for recognition in UNIGRAZonline! (German only)

Are you planning a stay abroad as part of your degree programme?
Here you will find instructions on how to create an advance notification in UNIGRAZonline before your stay (German only).
On the last page of the instruction you will find the information for the procedure following your stay abroad ["Notification (Exchange Semester)"].

ECTS number

Click on the course in your student file in UNIGRAZonline and under "Free elective course" you will find the ECTS number.

General information on the recognition of free electives

  • The recognition of free electives is only necessary if the courses were not taken at the Karl-Franzens-University. Please contact the Examinations Office of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
  • A course may not be "split" for another course and free electives. - Exception: NAWI-Graz programmes, joint degrees and ECTS earned abroad!  Example: You have completed a course with 6 ECTS and would now like to have it recognised for another course with 2 ECTS and for free electives with 4 ECTS - this is not permitted.

DECISIONLESS recognition of free electives

  • What is that?
    • Recognition without the signature of the curriculum committee chairperson.
  • When do I do that?
    • If the course originates from another field of study and is required for the course sequence, for example.
    • If the course originates from another Austrian post-secondary educational institution (e.g. TU Graz, MedUni Vienna, etc.).
  • How many ECTS can I have recognised?
    • Only the number of ECTS credits for the free electives specified in the curriculum may be recognised without notification.
  • How do I do that?
    • Create a recognition on your business card under "My recognitions/recognitions", actions "New recognition" and bring the application for recognition to the Examination Office of the Faculty of Natural Sciences or send it by e-mail to nawi.pruefref(at)uni-graz.at.
If you have not completed the courses at the Karl-Franzens-University, please also submit an original proof of academic achievement from the educational institution or hand it in at the Examinations Office of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Recognition of free electives with DECISION

  • What is that?
    • An acknowledgement signed by the chairperson of the curriculum committee.
  • When do I do that?Wann mache ich das?
    • If courses were completed abroad.
  • When do I do that?
    • Create a recognition under "My Recognitions/Additions", actions "New Recognition" and take the application for recognition to the Chair of the Curriculum Committee for signature. Then bring the signed application together with the original proof of academic achievement from the educational institution to the Examinations Office of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Original proof of academic success means: All course examinations must be submitted on underprinted paper or with a stamp and signature; digital signatures or barcodes can only be checked digitally and must be sent by e-mail to the Examinations Office of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

The "Application for authorisation to complete a career-oriented/relevant (international) internship" (German only) must be printed out and completed by the student and signed by the relevant curriculum committee chairperson.

If the internship has already been completed, the original confirmation from the institution (stamp and signature) must be enclosed.

After completing the internship, the application including the original confirmation from the institution (stamp and signature) must be submitted to the Examinations Office of the Faculty of Natural Sciences as soon as possible.

Please note that a maximum number of possible ECTS credits is specified in the curriculum for each degree programme. If this information is missing, a maximum of 12 ECTS credits can be applied for.

You can also find a completion aid for the application form here. (German only)
