Final theses
Regardless of whether you are studying for a Bachelor's, Master's or doctorate - in order to graduate, it is necessary to write a thesis.

Announcement of the Master's thesis topic
The corresponding notification form must be completed and signed by the student, supervisor, any co-supervisors and head of department and handed in at the Examinations Office of the Faculty of Natural Sciences or scanned and sent by e-mail to nawi.pruefref(at)uni-graz.at!
If the supervisor is not authorised to teach at the Karl-Franzens-University, please fill out the following form "Supplement to the Announcement of the Master's Thesis or Diploma Thesis" (is not the supplement for Psychology!) digitally and have it signed by the Chair of the Curriculum Commission! Please also send this with the completed announcement form to nawi.pruefref(at)uni-graz.at!
If the supervisor is not habilitated, please contact the Examination Office!

Please complete the following form (Word document or PDF) and send it to nawi.pruefref(at)uni-graz.at! You will then receive another email with information and instructions.
Submission of bachelor theses
From 1 March 2022, Bachelor's theses must be submitted exclusively in electronic form to the supervisor via UNIGRAZonline and will be subject to an automatic plagiarism check.
Please create a PDF-A of your thesis as well as abstracts in German and English and follow the instructions below: Download instructions.
If your thesis does not appear in UNIGRAZonline, please contact your supervisor!
If you have written your thesis at TU Graz as part of a NAWI Graz degree programme, please contact the Examinations Office of the Faculty of Natural Sciences!
Please note: Bachelor's theses must be submitted for assessment after three semesters at the latest, otherwise the course instructor may withdraw supervision!
Submission of Master's theses

- OPTIONAL blocking - if required, please send the form "Blocking application for Master's thesis" (fillable form oder PDF) with your signature and the signature of the supervisor by e-mail to nawi.pruefref(at)uni-graz.at at least 1 week before the digital submission of the thesis - this is a form that allows you to block the thesis for up to 5 years, e.g. because data is still being published or a patent is being applied for. The work cannot be viewed online for this period.
- Please register your thesis in UNIGRAZonline under "My theses - Publication"
- Have the registration approved by your supervisor (do not judge!).
- Please send the completed and signed form "Application for evaluation of the Master's thesis" (fillable form oder PDF) to nawi.pruefref(at)uni-graz.at
The "Request for assessment" is only deemed to have been accepted if you have registered and your supervisor has approved it beforehand.
The thesis is deemed to have been submitted in full on the date on which the "Request for assessment" is sent to nawi.pruefref(at)uni-graz.at. From this point onwards, the 4-week deadline for completing the final examination applies (with the exception of psychology: see deadlines under Lehrveranstaltungswiederholungen).
Submission of doctoral theses
! Required documents: Dissertation in the curriculum version 19W!
- Announce the reviewers as soon as they have been determined.
ATTENTION: not all assessors may work in the same institute (in the case of large institutes in the same department) at the University of Graz.- First assessor (fillable form or PDF): this person must be a member of the examination senate for the viva voce. If the first assessor is your supervisor, you do not need the form. In this case, please send an email to nawi.pruefref(at)uni-graz.at
- Second assessor (fillable form or PDF): dthis person can be a member of the examination senate at the viva voce. In the case of a cumulative dissertation, the second reviewer must not be a co-author of a publication included in the dissertation.
- Optional third assessor (fillable form or PDF): this person can be a member of the examination senate at the viva voce.
