Die Uni Graz-Quizshow Brain Game begeistert wieder Jung und Alt

Knifflige Fragen und spannende Geschicklichkeitsspiele aus der weiten Welt der Wissenschaft: Die “7. fakultät”, das Zentrum für Gesellschaft, Wissen und Kommunikation an der Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, veranstaltet zum zweiten Mal das Wissensquiz für alle: Brain Game. Am Dienstag, den 27. November 2012, treten in der Aula der Universität zwei Teams – bestehend aus sechs Studierenden und sechs Lehrenden – in einem unterhaltsamen Bewerb gegeneinander an.

Neue Spiele, neue Fragen, neues Glück!
Bereits im vergangenen Jahr zog Brain Game die Zuschauer in seinen Bann und das Studierenden-Team konnte nach einem fairen Kampf den Titel für sich gewinnen. Wie fit sind die WissenschafterInnen, Studierenden und das Publikum in diesem Jahr auf Gebieten der Wissenschaft und Forschung? In drei Blöcken – Bachelor, Master und PHD – mit unterschiedlichem Schwierigkeitsgrad müssen die beiden Mannschaften ihr umfangreiches Wissen unter Beweis stellen und zeigen, was in ihnen steckt. Zu jedem Block gibt es vier Fragen und zwei Spiele. Die Wissensfragen kommen aus den Themenbereichen der sechs Fakultäten und orientieren sich an bekannten Fragemodellen, wie sie zum Beispiel aus der Millionenshow bekannt sind. Die Fragen sind jedoch so gewählt, dass sie auch beantwortet werden können ohne Studierende oder AbsolventIn der jeweiligen Fakultät zu sein. Am Ende siegt die Mannschaft, welche die meisten Punkte hat.

Nicht nur die AkteurInnen auf der Bühne können an diesem Abend gewinnen: Unter allen, die sich bis Dienstag, 27. November 2012, als BesucherIn zu Brain Game anmelden, werden im Anschluss an die Veranstaltung Merchandisingprodukte verlost.

What is going on in the combs? How many eggs is the queen laying? How much honey is there? Autonomous robots and AI algorithms provide important data and high-resolution real-time images from inside a beehive. "As part of an international team, we have developed a game-changer technology for a new type of digitalised behavioural research," reports biologist Thomas Schmickl from the Artifical Life Lab at the University of Graz. The publication, which has just appeared as the cover story in the journal "Science Robotics", describes the wealth of information that can be obtained from this unique research facility.

Research for healthy aging: FWF funds Cluster of Excellence "MetAGE" with 18 million euros

Six researchers from the Field of Excellence "BioHealth" at the University of Graz, together with colleagues from the Medical Universities of Graz and Vienna, have acquired an FWF-funded "Cluster of Excellence". Now a newly formed center of excellence will be created under the leadership of the University of Graz. The aim is to gain a better understanding of healthy aging. The findings will flow directly into clinical research.
